World Obesity Day Europe 2021 will be held on Thursday, March 4. It brings together healthcare, patient and political communities who are keen to raise awareness of obesity and the many other diseases on which it impacts. World Obesity Day Europe is an initiative of the European Association for the Study of Obesity (EASO) and is aligned with World Obesity Day being held on the same day in other parts of the world. Other leading obesity organisations taking part in World Obesity Day include the World Obesity Federation (WOF), the Obesity Action Coalition (OAC), The Obesity Society (TOS), Obesity Canada, the Obesity Medicine Association (OMA), the Asia Oceania Association for the Study of Obesity, the Healthy Caribbean Coalition, World Obesity, and the European Coalition for People living with Obesity (ECPO) For World Obesity Day Europe, EASO’s aim is to increase knowledge and understanding of the need for action at both European and national levels to improve prevention, treatment and care. At the same time, the campaign supports European citizens who are overweight or have obesity to make lifestyle changes to manage their weight and improve their overall health and quality of life. It will include regional and national campaigns and local activities and events.

According to the WHO data, obesity is a risk factor for cardiovascular diseases (mainly heart disease and stroke), which were the leading cause of death in 2012; in line with this point of view, YOUNG50 through the integration with other health-promoting programs, like implementing physical activity, healthy eating, healthy ageing, aims to work towards the improvement of many cardiovascular risk factors
