Twenty years ago, Sweden introduced a new method to prescribe physical activity within the healthcare; Physical activity on prescription (PAP-S). The PAP-S is unique in its interplay between five core components of a person-centred counselling using diagnosis-specific and evidence-based recommendations for physical activity, this results in an individualised written prescription which is supplemented with a follow-up. In addition, the healthcare services also collaborate with various activity organisers in the local community to help individuals increase as well as maintain their activity level.
EUPAP is a three-year project, 2019-2022, co-funded by the EU health programme, coordinated by the Public Health Agency of Sweden. The objective of EUPAP is to transfer the PAP-S method to nine European countries (Belgium, Denmark, Germany, Italy, Lithuania, Malta, Portugal, Romania and Spain). This project was funded by the European Union’s Health Programme (2014-2020).
